Are the blades and pocket clips of Dark Bolt knives interchangeable between models? We know that each knife user has their own unique style, purpose, and reason for owning a knife. With that in mind, we designed our knives to be as customizable as possible - including the blades and pocket clips. Each one of our blade shapes and pocket clips are designed to work on any one of the other models. See the Gallery for pictures. * Please note - while the blades are designed to be interchangeable, slight variations in machining tolerances might prevent swapped blades from having a perfect fit, resulting in blade play, detent, centering, and lock up issues. We can NOT guarantee the success of any blade swaps and can only provide warranty services on knives in their original configuration.

How do I swap blades between knife models? It's important to note that the BoltLock™ button is thread locked into the liner. For this reason, please use the instructions in the video below in order to successfully perform a blade swap without having to break the thread lock on the button.
-
Why do Dark Bolt knives have both a liner lock and the BoltLock™?No two knife owners are alike. Some might like liner locks, some might like button locks. We put two closing mechanisms on our knives so you can make that choice. The BoltLock™ button is removable so if you'd prefer to only use the liner lock, simply unscrew the button and store it somewhere safe.

Is there any recommend maintenance for Dark Bolt knives?Dark Bolt knives are high-performance cutting tools made from some of the finest materials in the world. Most of our blade steels have a very high carbon content which enables them to hold a superior cutting edge. Unfortunately, carbon is also the element that causes rust, so preventive care is required if the knife is used in humid or marine environments. To aid in the cleaning of rust on the blades, we recommend using a fine grade, semi-chrome polish. The BoltLock™ button comes from the manufacturer with threadlock applied. If you remove the button, you must reapply medium strength (blue) threadlock to prevent it from potentially loosening and falling out.

How do I use the front flipper opening mechanism? The keys to opening a knife using a front flipper tab are in the grip and angle of force applied to the tab. To start, hold the knife by firmly grasping the handle with your fingers on the clip side of the knife, in between the pocket clip and the blade opening, as demonstrated in this photo - Place your thumb against the front flipper tab on the front side of the blade (not the top) just slightly above the scale. This prevents your finger from hitting the scale as your are pressing to open it - Finally, when applying pressure with your thumb, it should have both upward AND lateral force, following the shape of the scale as indicated in the picture below - With practice, you will soon be able to open your Dark Bolt knife by using the front flipper tab with ease!
